Washoe County Detention Facility Inmate Found Unresponsive, Pronounced Deceased

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 11:40 a.m., an inmate in custody at the Washoe County Detention Facility was found unresponsive in their cell by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The inmate was housed alone in the cell.

Deputies and on-site medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures. REMSA was dispatched to the facility and, upon arrival, continued life-saving measures.

Despite these efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel at approximately 11:58 a.m.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct investigations into the death. The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will release the inmate’s identity following notification of next of kin.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation. The initial investigation found no evidence of foul play or other criminal activity.
