Two men have been found guilty of Battery Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm, after they initiated a fight in downtown Reno. Jaden Johnson (dob 1/14/03) and Trevor Delapp (dob 4/29/03) were with a group of people near Sierra Street and 1st Street, when they passed the 18-year-old male victim and the victim’s male friend. Someone in the defendants’ group randomly slapped the victim’s friend, causing the two men to stop and ask what the slap was for. At that point, Johnson, Delapp, and two others began approaching the men, with Johnson punching the victim in the face. The man tried to run away but was tackled by Johnson. Johnson and Delapp then began kicking and punching the victim in the face. The man went to the hospital after the attack, where he learned he had a fractured jaw.

During the investigation, Reno Police were able to find video of the incident, which Deputy District Attorney Lorena Valencia showed during the trial. In addition, both the victim and his friend testified. Sentencing is set for September 14th before the Honorable Scott Freeman.
