Food safety during power outages – NNPH guidance for food establishments

Aug. 10, 2026. Reno, Sparks, Nev. – Northern Nevada Public Health’s (NNPH) Food Safety Program is reminding food establishments about operational guidelines during power outages to help protect people from foodborne disease and minimize product losses.

Regional wildfires in Washoe County are causing widespread power outages. The below document outlines the biggest food safety concerns, especially for food establishments serving meat, eggs, dairy, cooked vegetables and cut melons.
