Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announces that a Sun Valley man has been convicted of 19 counts: 11 counts of Sexual Assault on a Child Under 14, four counts of Lewdness with a Child Under 14, one count Attempted Sexual Assault on a Child Under 14, one count Child Neglect, one count Incest, and one count Dissuading a Witness.
David Moreno (dob 4/11/85) was arrested by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in April of 2025, after one of the minor victims in the case disclosed to her school counselor that she had been repeatedly sexually abused and sexually assaulted by the defendant, who is known to her. During the investigation, detectives learned that Moreno sexually abused and assaulted one of the minor victims for approximately six years, and further learned that he sexually abused a second minor victim, also known to him, on multiple occasions.
Deputy District Attorney Kristina Rhoades and Chief Deputy District Attorney Peg Samples represented the State in the case against Moreno. At trial, the State emphasized the credibility of the victims, as well as the defendant’s years-long grooming of the minor victims and of other adults around those minor victims. Sentencing is set for September 24th before the Honorable Egan Walker. Moreno faces 15 life sentences, and up to 450 years should all counts be imposed consecutively.
