As boating season continues, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents and visitors of the Washoe County Code governing parking boats, trailers, recreational vehicles, and oversized vehicles on public streets.
Under Washoe County Code 70.391, recreational vehicles, trailers, and boats may be parked on a public street for a limited 48-hour period for loading and unloading, provided all other traffic and parking laws are followed.
After that 48-hour period, a boat or trailer left parked or stored on a public street, highway, or alley may be subject to enforcement and towing.
Please remember:
- Boats and trailers should not be stored long-term on public roadways.
- The 48-hour allowance is for loading and unloading only.
- Boats or trailers parked in a way that obstructs traffic, sidewalks, intersections, crosswalks, or driveways, or that creates a safety issue may be subject to additional enforcement under Washoe County Code 70.392.
- Commercial trailers or semitrailers not attached to a tractor or motor vehicle may not be parked on public streets, highways, alleys, or parking lots.
If a boat or trailer is located on private property, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office does not have jurisdiction to remove it solely as a parking issue. In those cases, residents should contact Washoe County Code Enforcement for assistance.
