Thursday, April 23, 2026. Reno, Sparks, Nev. – Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) has officially opened a new, state-of-the-art Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic in Reno, expanding access to care and strengthening efforts to prevent and control the spread of tuberculosis in Washoe County.
Located at 1240 E 9th St, the new facility replaces the former TB clinic on Kirman Avenue, which was originally built in 1959. The new modern building is designed to provide a safe, welcoming environment for individuals receiving evaluation and treatment for both active and inactive tuberculosis.
The new TB clinic was made possible through $10 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), allocated by the State of Nevada and the Governor’s Office of Finance. The investment reflects a continued commitment to protecting community health and improving access to essential public health services.
“The opening of this new TB clinic represents a major step forward in our ability to care for our community,” said Christina Sheppard, Division Director of Community and Clinical Health Services at NNPH. “This facility allows us to provide high-quality, compassionate care while enhancing our capacity to prevent the spread of tuberculosis in northern Nevada.”
NNPH’s Tuberculosis Prevention & Control Program is dedicated to identifying, treating, and preventing TB cases in Washoe County. The program offers testing, treatment, case management, and education to help reduce transmission and improve health outcomes.
In 2025, there were 11 active TB cases treated, with full contact tracing and testing completed for each case by NNPH. In addition, there were 85 latent TB cases evaluated and treated, and over 950 positive TB labs reported and investigated in the community
Tuberculosis is a potentially serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs. People with active TB may experience symptoms such as a persistent cough and chest pain and can spread the disease to others if untreated. With proper medical care, TB is treatable. Individuals with inactive (latent) TB carry the bacteria but do not have symptoms and cannot spread the disease.
