The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to an early morning structure fire on Carol Drive in Sun Valley.
On February 24, 2026, at approximately 1:15 a.m., Washoe County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 5000 block of Carol Drive for a report of a possible structure fire. Upon arrival, deputies observed visible smoke coming from inside the residence.
The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District also responded and began fire suppression efforts. The fire was contained to the single residence and did not spread to neighboring homes. During the incident, one deceased individual was located inside the residence.
Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives are conducting an investigation into the incident. The Washoe County Medical Regional Examiner’s Office will conduct its formal investigation. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
