The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is participating in a statewide Joining Forces event focused on impaired driving. This enforcement campaign aims to increase awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
From December 16, 2025, through January 5, 2026, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement partners across Nevada will dedicate extra patrol resources to this special enforcement and awareness effort.
The goal of the Sheriff’s Office in participating in this campaign is to educate the public and enforce DUI laws to make our community’s roads safer for everyone. Impaired driving is the number one cause of motor vehicle crashes, injuries, and fatalities in Nevada, accounting for 47 percent of all traffic fatalities statewide. Even one impaired decision can have life-altering consequences for the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and everyone else sharing the road.
As holiday travel increases this time of year, we urge the public to make responsible choices. A safe ride is always available, whether through a designated sober driver, a ride-sharing service, a taxi, or public transportation.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to reducing the number of fatalities on Nevada roads to zero by increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, distracted driving, and more. The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provide funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns to reduce traffic deaths.
