On September 9, 2025, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash at the Doral Academy in South Reno.
Upon arrival, deputies found that a vehicle had driven through the school’s playing field fence. The vehicle was occupied by an adult female driver and her 9-month-old child, who was secured in a car seat in the backseat.
Following an on-scene investigation, deputies determined the driver, 37-year-old Dar Kanellis, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
Kanellis was arrested and booked on the following charges:
- Driving Under the Influence (1st Offense)
- Destruction of Property
- Child Endangerment
The child was evaluated and released to a family member. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reminds the community of the dangers and consequences of impaired driving, especially when children are involved.
