NNPH Celebrates Air Quality Awareness Week

May 5, 2025. Reno/Sparks, Nev. – Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH), and its Air Quality Management Division, are excited to celebrate Air Quality Awareness Week from May 5 to May 9, 2025.

This nationally recognized week, organized in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aims to increase public awareness about air quality and encourage individuals to incorporate air quality knowledge into their daily lives.

This year’s theme, “Stay Air Aware,” emphasizes the importance of staying informed about air quality and taking proactive steps to protect health and the environment.

Daily Topics for Air Quality Awareness Week 2025:

  • Tuesday, May 6:Asthma and Your Health
  • Wednesday, May 7:Indoor Air Quality
  • Thursday, May 8:Air, Animals, and Plants

“We are committed to promoting air quality awareness and encouraging our community to take steps to protect their health and the environment,” said Francisco Vega, Division Director for NNPH-AQMD. “Air Quality Awareness Week is an excellent opportunity for everyone to learn more about air quality in Washoe County and how they can contribute to cleaner air.”

The NNPH Air Quality Management Division plays a crucial role in monitoring and managing air quality in Washoe County. Their efforts include issuing permits for sources of air pollution, inspecting pollution sources to ensure compliance with health and environmental standards, and operating a network of ambient air monitoring stations to provide real-time air quality data to the community.
