Washoe County District Attorney's Office

Parole Denied for Jason Brown

Convicted of Mutilating, Killing Dogs

Feb 18, 2025

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks is acknowledging the Board of Parole Commissioners decision to deny parole to convicted dog killer Jason Brown.

“Our community will never forget the horrific cruelty Brown inflicted upon multiple dogs,” said DA Hicks. “I commend the Parole Board for rightfully denying his parole and will continue to advocate that he serves every day of his well-deserved prison sentence. That is what justice demands.”

Brown was convicted in 2015 for killing seven dogs in 2014 and taking videos of the assaults. Following prosecution by this office, he was sentenced to the maximum allowed under Nevada law of 28 years. In a letter to the parole board this year, DA Hicks touched on how this was the second time Brown had come up for parole, despite not having yet served the minimum sentence.

“Mr. Brown was arrested on July 9, 2014. Now, less than 11 years since his arrest, Mr. Brown is seeking release on parole, for the second time. Mr. Brown still hasn’t served the minimum sentence imposed, which is wholly at odds with the sentence sought by the WCDA and the sentence imposed by Judge Sattler. The fact that Mr. Brown has had the opportunity to seek parole twice before he has even served his minimum sentence shines a spotlight on the fallacy, and failures, of sentencing laws.”
