Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Participating in Statewide Joining Forces Speeding Awareness Campaign

Jan 10, 2025

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will join forces with multiple participating law enforcement agencies in Nevada for a Joining Forces Speed Awareness Campaign from January 13 to January 31, 2025. This unified effort aims to enhance public safety through high visibility enforcement across the state, focusing on raising awareness, educating motorists, and ultimately safeguarding lives.

Between 2018 and 2022, a total of 505 fatalities in Nevada were attributed to speeding, making it one of the leading causes of road fatalities in the state. Speeding isn’t just about exceeding the posted speed limit, it also includes driving too fast during adverse weather conditions such as rain, ice, and snow. Speeding endangers not only your life but also the lives of others. The consequences can be significant, including greater potential for loss of vehicle control, increased stopping distance after perceiving danger, and severe crashes resulting in greater injuries or even death.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to reducing the number of fatalities on Nevada’s roads to zero by increasing public awareness about the dangers of speeding, driving unrestrained, impaired driving, distracted driving, and more. The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s- Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) provides funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in Joining Forces to reduce traffic deaths.
