Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Arrest Child Sexual Assault Suspect After Joint Investigation

In a collaborative effort involving detectives from the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU), the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, and officers from the Reno Police Department, a suspect has been arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses following an investigation into the sexual assault of a child.

On June 29, 2024, detectives from RSONU and patrol officers from the Reno Police Department arrested 43-year-old Edgar Acero-Vasquez on a felony charge of violating sex offender registration requirements. Acero-Vasquez was transported to the Washoe County Detention Facility and booked on this charge.

An investigation was then initiated into the reported sexual abuse of a child who was known to Acero-Vasquez and had been residing in the same residence.

On July 1, 2024, after further investigation by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives, Edgar Acero-Vasquez was charged by detectives with ten felony counts related to the sexual assault of a child, including:

  • Six counts of lewdness committed by a person over 18 with a child 14 or 15 years of age.
  • Two counts of unlawful use of minors in producing pornography or as the subject of sexual portrayal in performance.
  • Two counts of statutory sexual seduction by an offender over the age of 21 years old.

Edgar Acero-Vasquez is registered as a tier-three level sex offender in Nevada due to a conviction from June 5, 2019, in the Superior Court of California for unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18.
