In observance of the Juneteenth Federal Holiday signed into Federal law today, Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam announced tonight that both the Administrative Division and Front Desk will be closed tomorrow, Friday, June 18, 2021.
This closure will affect the recently instated First-Come, First-Served Fridays for Carry Concealed Weapons (CCW) permits. There will be NO first-come, first-served appointments tomorrow.
“Tomorrow is an historic day – marking the first time in American History our nation is formally recognizing the end to slavery,” said Sheriff Balaam. “Nevada is entrenched in the history behind this day, as the making of our state allowed for President Abraham Lincoln to deliver the Emancipation Proclamation, and ultimately free the enslaved in June of 1865. I am proud that the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office will formally recognize Juneteenth tomorrow.”
Public safety operations and special events staffing will remain at normal levels.
“As always, our number one priority is the safety and security of our community. We will be on the job protecting our community tomorrow and every day.”
