Washoe County Sheriff’s Office implements GovQA technology to improve public records, case request process

Aug 12, 2021

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office today announced an electronic process for citizens to request and receive public record and case information in accordance with Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS). Beginning Monday, August 16, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office will utilize GovQA software to accept, process and return public record and case information.

“Effective, efficient and accessible customer service is of upmost importance to me,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam. “It is my belief that utilizing this platform will help further advance the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to being open and transparent in accordance with Nevada law. For those members of our community who do not have internet or electronic access, written requests will continue to be accepted as they are now – adding the electronic function is merely another avenue for people to request this type of information.”

Community members who wish to request public records and case information such as electronic documents, videos, and/or audio files may do so via the GovQA public portal, beginning August 16, 2021. The self-serve process provides secure transactions and allows the individual seeking information the ability to track their requests online throughout the process.

The new public records portal can be accessed Monday through washoesheriff.com by scrolling to “I want to…” on the homepage and choosing “Request Case Info/FOIA” or by selecting “Case/FOIA/Information Requests” under Services in the top menu.
