Multiple Inmates Test Positive for COVID-19 in Washoe County Detention Facility

Sep 15, 2023

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam has confirmed that 23 WCSO inmates have tested positive for COVID-19.

The inmates have been isolated and are being treated.  The Inmate Management Unit has enacted protocols to ensure direct supervision principles and that much needed tier time for our inmate population and efficient programming courses are not negatively impacted where possible.

“Just as we have seen a rise in cases of COVID-19 in our community, cases have also made their way in the Washoe County Detention Facility,” Sheriff Darin Balaam said. “The safety and health of every member of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office family, as well as the inmates, remains my number one priority.”

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains in close contact with its medical provider, Naphcare. The Office has also increased hand sanitation stations, cleaning procedures and continues to issue masks where and when necessary, as well as upon request.
